The Bartolomé de las Casas Center is a popular education center inspired by Liberation Theology. It is made up of people that come from a diversity of religious and social backgrounds. Its volunteers are affiliated to the social work of the Dominican Order in El Salvador. They are committed to research, socializing ideas, creating new development alternatives and promoting human coexistence with justice and equity.
The Center works in cooperation with various groups and communities in El Salvador since the year 2000. Its work is based on the search for Truth amongst all people, without distinction of race or condition, but especially amongst those from marginal areas that are trying to survive in El Salvador’s neoliberal society.
Its goals are: inclusion and gender equality, cooperation, protecting the environment, preserving historical memory and researching and analyzing reality, especially that of the poorest sectors of society.
For several years, the Center has supported processes of product and service exchanges in the communities it works with. The objective of the project supported by STRO is to strengthen and complement local exchange networks with a voucher system.
