FUSAI is a non-profit organization constituted as a Foundation. It seeks to help the poorest sectors of El Salvador incorporate themselves into development processes, as well as to improve their communities’ conditions. It was created in 1993 by a group of professionals committed to improving El Salvador’s reality. Their work is the continuity of the work of the Salvadoran Association for Comprehensive Support, founded in 1988 and no longer in existence.

The Foundation’s mission is: “To support the socio-economic insertion of sectors, actors and regions with minimal access to the benefits of development.”

In order to achieve its mission, FUSAI has worked on three central themes as part of a broader strategy of support for local development and decentralization. These central themes are:

1. Development, consolidation and expansion of the San Andres Training Center. The Center is considered to be an instrument to develop leadership, management skills and general knowledge useful for a diversity of development actors, such as: small businesses, cooperatives, grassroots organizations, local governments, workers, professors, public officials, etc.

2. Development, consolidation and expansion of the Habitat Program through the consolidation of its Revolving Housing Fund. This Fund is considered to be an instrument for self-sustainability and for the provision of basic services and housing for marginal populations, both in rural and urban areas. This is achieved through housing and basic infrastructure projects and through the financing of intermediaries that grant loans for housing improvements.

3. Development, consolidation and expansion of the Comprehensive Support Society. This Society participated in the Credit Program and seeks to transform itself into a regulated financial institution that makes microcredit accessible to people that have no access or a limited access to the formal banking system.

The Foundation has an average of 70 employees. Its offices are located in San Salvador at the San Andrés Training Center, located in Lourdes, Colón in the state of La Libertad.

The Foundation is an active actor in various national and regional efforts in the development of alliances to combat poverty and foment development in areas with low public, private and international investment.

FUSAI is part of the project Punto Transacciones.
